Reno’s Biggest Little 10K: Running, Riverwalks & Recovery Beers 🍻🏃‍♀️

If you’ve ever been to Reno in April, then you already know the weather spins a giant wheel every morning and decides your fate.

Will it be snowing?

Will it be windy enough to blow your eyelashes off?

Will you need shorts, leggings, a raincoat, and emotional support?

The answer is usually: yes.

But somehow, for the 2026 Reno's Biggest Little Half Marathon, we hit the weather jackpot. It was absolutely perfect running weather. Cool enough to be comfortable, but not freezing-your-butt-off cold. Probably around 50–60 degrees once the morning got going.

We started in shorts and our beloved RunDisney long sleeves from the previous year—which honestly ended up being the perfect combo. Plus, there’s something magical about spotting fellow Disney runners in the wild. I ended up pacing behind another RunDisney fan for a good portion of the race, and somehow that tiny shared connection makes you feel like you’re part of a secret running club.

Why We Chose the 10K

Originally, we had considered doing the half-marathon. Then reality entered the group chat.

We have another race coming up soon, and my husband and I decided that maybe destroying ourselves before the next race was not the smartest life choice.

Growth, people. Growth. 😆

So we settled on the 10K.

The girls were pretty much fine with whatever distance we picked, but later we realized this was definitely the right decision because one of them had “the crud.” You know—that mysterious illness where you’re not fully dying, but you also question every life decision while running.

And despite not feeling great, she absolutely crushed her first 10K. We were super proud of her.

The Course: Beautiful, Easy & Snack-Friendly

The race itself was honestly fantastic.

We started downtown near the river, which meant the beginning was a little chilly, but once everyone got moving it was perfect.

The course took us:

  • Through downtown Reno

  • Into older neighborhoods

  • Around Idlewild Park

  • Along the Riverwalk

  • And finally back under the iconic Reno Arch finish line

And let me tell you—the neighborhoods were gorgeous.

I’m talking stunning historic homes from the 1920s and beyond. Some looked straight out of a Hallmark movie where someone inherits a bakery and falls in love with a lumberjack named Chad.

The residents were outside, cheering runners on, offering encouragement, and handing out snacks.

Now listen carefully…

You all know I am here for the snacks. 😂

Nothing says “peak athlete” like spotting pretzels mid-race and immediately perking up.

Organization & Race Vibes

The race was extremely well organized and easy to follow.

No character stops like RunDisney, obviously. No one was out there dressed as Goofy holding motivational signs. But the scenery along the river honestly made up for it. There were several beautiful spots for photos, and the finish area had backdrops set up for post-race pictures.

And best of all?

Schussboom Brewing Co. was there making sure runners received celebratory beers after crossing the finish line.

Priorities. 🍺

They offered both a light and dark beer, and both were honestly really good.

Swag Check: Did the Medal Deliver?

Short answer: YES.

We picked up our bibs the day before, and the swag bags included:

  • Snacks

  • A pen

  • A really pretty blue dry-fit race shirt

And thank goodness it was short-sleeved because some race shirts look like they were designed by someone who hates joy and human comfort.

The medal itself absolutely did not disappoint.

And as most of you already know…

I run for the medals.

The exercise is just how I earn my jewelry. 😆

Hotel Tip: BOOK EARLY

Now this was our one downside.

Apparently, Reno decided to host concerts and headliners the same weekend, which caused hotel prices to shoot into another tax bracket.

Normally, I book hotels 1–2 weeks before events because I like to live dangerously, apparently.

But this time? Big mistake.

We ended up driving in the morning of the race instead of staying overnight.

It worked out fine because we live semi-close, but it definitely wasn’t our normal routine. I prefer staying close to races because I deeply value sleeping in and minimizing unnecessary movement before voluntarily running 6 miles.

So learn from our mistake:

BOOK EARLY.

Your wallet will thank you.

Post-Race Food: Reno Never Disappoints

The beautiful thing about Reno is that you can find literally anything you’re craving after a race.

Fast food? Yup.

Fancy brunch? Absolutely.

All-you-can-eat buffet chaos? Of course.

Gordon Ramsay yelling at someone nearby? Potentially.

This time, we tried Schussboom Brewing Co. for breakfast since they sponsored the race.

Honestly? Super solid breakfast. We’d definitely go back.

Final Thoughts: Would We Do It Again?

Absolutely.

We’re giving this race:

🐾🐾🐾🐾 4 Bubby Paws

Why?

  • Beautiful scenery

  • Great organization

  • Awesome swag

  • Fun atmosphere

  • Beginner friendly

  • Great for experienced runners too

  • Excellent post-race snacks and drinks (important)

And if you love architecture and pretty neighborhoods, this race is honestly worth doing just for the scenery alone.

Whether you’re local to Nevada or just want a fun weekend race away from the Valley, this one is definitely worth adding to your list.

And if you see us there next year, come say hi! We love meeting fellow runners, walkers, Disney adults, snack enthusiasts, and medal collectors.

Your journey begins the moment you decide you’re worth the effort.

We’ve got this—together.

See you at the next run. 🏃‍♀️✨🏅
