🌲 Silver Lake Adventures – A Hidden Gem in Lassen National Forest

Have you ever been to a lake that feels small, cozy, and surrounded by the cutest little cabins? That’s Silver Lake in Lassen National Forest. A few years ago, these cabins were nearly lost in the Dixie Fire, so seeing them still standing today feels like a miracle. That said, the scars of the fire are still visible around the lake, and you’ll often spot locals working hard on brush cleanup.
These two photos are taken from the same point of view:
📸 Left: Post Dixie Fire (2025)
📸 Right: Pre Dixie Fire (2020)
The Dixie Fire tore through in July 2021, burning over 963,000 acres and nearly 69% of Lassen Volcanic National Park.
It’s powerful to see how much the landscape has changed in just a few short years. Nature is healing—but the scars are still here as a reminder.

🚤 What to Do at Silver Lake
Silver Lake is a perfect spot if you’re into paddleboarding, kayaking, or just floating the day away. While motorboats are allowed, it’s mostly a peaceful, paddle-powered vibe. The day we went, the only motor on the lake was a lone seadoo—everyone else was out on fishing boats, kayaks, or SUP boards.
It’s also a great place for a picnic or a relaxing afternoon. There aren’t tons of day-use spots, but you’ll find picnic tables and bathrooms available.

🦟 Insider Tip – Beware the Mosquitos
Take it from me—you’ll want to plan your trip after July 4th. Before that, the mosquitoes are brutal. We learned this the hard way years ago while camping. Those little monsters will eat you alive and probably steal your snacks too.
🏕️ Camping & Lodging
Camping was closed this year due to fire cleanup, but usually, you can stay overnight. If you’re tent camping or RV-ing, keep in mind:
The road up is rough—RVs over 25–28 feet are not recommended.
For other camping in the area, check AllStays.com for nearby tent and RV options.
Not into camping? You can stay nearby at the Diamond Mountain Casino & Resort in Susanville. It’s a fun base for exploring.
