Staying Motivated on GLP-1, Training, and the RunDisney Journey

Most of you know that our family has been on a GLP-1 at some point over the last 2–3 years. My husband and daughter are now on maintenance doses, while I’m still on my regular weekly dose—and for a few good reasons I’ll share below.

What Maintenance Looks Like

A maintenance dose happens once someone reaches their goal weight and no longer needs the full weekly amount. Instead of taking the medication every 7 days, they may stretch it to every 10–14 days or lower their dose. The goal is simply to maintain—not continue losing.

I’m not there yet.

Hitting a Plateau (and the Real Talk Behind It)

I plateaued for months, and honestly… I wasn’t doing the work behind the medication. I wasn’t consistently tracking calories, watching my protein intake, or exercising regularly. I was frustrated, but deep down I knew why.

So I decided to reignite something I already loved: RunDisney.

I’d done their events in the past and remembered how fun they were—plus, if I wanted that Coast to Coast medal, I had to complete a half marathon. That meant putting in the miles, not just relying on medication. Two out of three family members said yes to joining me, and we started training.

Breaking the Plateau With Protein + Consistency

After summer, I committed to hitting 90–100 grams of protein daily. Finding the right drinks and bars was a whole journey—I’m not a fan of milky or chalky textures—so many options went straight to the “nope” list. But we eventually found a few winners:

✔️ Aulani protein drinks

✔️ Chobani yogurt drinks

Those helped me slowly start losing weight again.

Finding a Training Routine That Works

Then came the treadmill—and that was the real game changer.

I joined Strava and Runna, and eventually discovered that Runna would create full training plans for my schedule and pace. Now it’s my go-to tool every day. The community there is supportive and motivating, especially on days when all I want to do is crawl into bed.

Some days, my workout is the one hour I can completely shut my brain off. And I’ve learned to really appreciate that time.

My Biggest Motivation

My husband has been the biggest motivator on this journey. And, funny enough, so have the bike guys at RunDisney.

People always say they fear the Balloon Ladies—but after getting swept at mile marker 9 and escorted to the infamous “parade bus” by the bike crew (which, for the record, is not the party bus anyone wants to be on), I can confirm they are serious motivators.

We’re All in This Together

These are just a few of the things that keep me moving forward—GLP-1 support, protein, structured training, community encouragement, and a whole lot of stubbornness.

If you’re on your own journey, whether it’s weight loss, fitness, or just trying to feel better in your body, I hope you stick with it. And if you need accountability or motivation, we’re right here doing the work with you.

Let’s keep supporting each other, keep moving, and keep chasing those goals—one step at a time. 💪🏽✨

Your journey begins the moment you decide you’re worth the effort.

We’ve got this—together.

See you at the next run. 🏃‍♀️✨🏅
