Let’s Chat About Running Gear: Starting With Shoes

When it comes to running, gear really matters. There’s so much to consider—what equipment to use, what clothes to wear, what shoes actually work for your feet, which apps to track your progress, where to sign up for races, even how GLP-1 use affects running and walking. Trust me, I could write for days about all of it (and I will!), so I hope these posts help you on your journey.

Start With Shoes—Because the Right Pair Changes Everything
There are hundreds of choices out there: running, walking, street running, and trail running. QC, Brooks, New Balance—just to name a few. Before buying anything, I highly recommend going somewhere that evaluates your feet. I went to Scheels and stepped on their machine. The guy helping me suggested the Brooks Adrenaline based on my pressure points and stance.
I rolled my eyes, convinced he was full of it. I’d always worn New Balance and had just upgraded to a new pair.
Well… he was absolutely right.

Why I Switched to Brooks Adrenaline
After a few weeks in my New Balance pair, my feet were dying. Even the attached tongue design annoyed me. Then I found Brooks Adrenaline on sale at REI—and OH. MY. WOW. What a difference.
I now own two pairs of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24. One for outdoor running and one that lives on the treadmill. When I found out RunDisney collaborated with Brooks, I snagged the RunDisney Adrenalines at the Villains Run—and they’ve become my favorite pair.
Here’s why I love them:
Plenty of toe room (no more cramped toes during long runs)
The perfect balance of cushion—not too squishy, not too firm
Stable support without feeling stiff
An arch that’s not too high and not too low

Brooks Ghost Max 2 & 3
I also run/walk in the Brooks Ghost Max 2 and 3. They’re much more cushioned than the Adrenalines. They don’t hurt my feet, but they don’t feel quite as stable when I’m running. Still great shoes—just different.
Next on my list: trying the TrailGhost. We’re planning to run trail half and full marathons in 2026 and will be training on local trails whenever the weather cooperates. I’ll be sharing updates along the way!
Find What Works for Your Feet
Shoes are an investment—and the right pair can make or break your running journey. What works for me may not work for you, which is why I strongly suggest getting a proper foot evaluation. Start with shoes that support your body, your stride, and your goals.
Your journey begins the moment you decide you’re worth the effort.
We’ve got this—together.
See you at the next run. 🏃♀️✨🏅
